November 2008

I am pleased to let you know that Crop Science has started the online publication of manuscripts from the IPBS. The initial manuscripts are posted at http://crop.scijournals.org
/content/vol47/Supplemen
t_3/
. Additional manuscripts will be posted online within the next several weeks. All of the available manuscripts (22 in all) will be published in printed form as a supplemental volume of Crop Science in early 2008.

Please join me in thanking the authors for their valuable contributions. I hope that you will find the IPBS articles as useful references in learning new developments, changes, challenges, and opportunities in plant breeding.

The deadline to apply for sponsorship was March 31, 2006.
Requests for sponsorship will no longer be accepted.

A limited number of NARS participants from Asia, Africa and Latin America will be sponsored to attend the Symposium. Anyone wishing to be considered for sponsorship must submit an application to their nearest CIMMYT Regional Office. Self-nominations for sponsorship will not be accepted. Presentation of a poster is a condition of sponsorship.

  • Interested candidates are requested to submit the following information to the CIMMYT regional office: Name, birthdate, nationality, position (job), gender, letter of nomination from employer, poster abstract.
  • Deadline for nominations is March 31, 2006, and those selected for sponsorship will be notified by March 31, 2006.
  • The following selection criteria will be used: Relevance of abstract (see the IPBS 2006 program at the web page), balance of attendee gender, relations with CIMMYT and co-sponsors. Co-sponsored participants will have preference. No more than two participants per country will be considered for sponsorship. Nominees from countries with strong NARS (eg Argentina, China, Brazil, India, Mexico) cannot be considered for sponsorship.

Sponsored participants will have the possibility to participate in a one-week course/workshop prior to IPBS 'Reaching Farmers: Implementing More Effective Smallholder-targeted Crop Improvement Programs' (El Batan, August 14 - 18, 2006).
